Yep, a much bigger competitor is trying to confuse our audience. To be honest, I did not think that I would be this excited!
Here’s the deal: Some of my team members and I worked on a new tone, updated messaging, and a new look for a local brand. It’s unique and identifiable. And a much more powerful competitor is using it exactly to make it look like their message is coming from the brand we work on.
My reaction? THIS. IS. AMAZING. Because…they don’t look so secure or powerful when they need to resort to these basic b*tch tactics to TRICK audiences. It makes them look scared. And it means what we’re doing is working.
Cease & Desist: The brand is in touch with lawyers, so there’s that element too. But from a marketing perspective, this is really, really good. It’s a sinister motivation to try and trick people and I think it shows the integrity of the competing brand.
Having your work copied sucks, especially when someone is selling it as their own. But a true marketer will milk that sh*t for content and turn that threat into an opportunity.
