Why do things work for experts or other brands but not you?
Firstly, your audience has different expectations, different values, may not be as warm, and may already be fatigued by these ‘tactics’ that others have used so aggressively.
I also think that if you don’t totally like or understand the tactic then it’s not going to work.
Here are three things I’m not doing:
😵💫 Crying in front of the camera.
I get the videos that show the difficult moments, the ones that show how you pivot, and have audiences invest in your journey. But when I’m having a breakdown…I’m not setting up my tripod.
😵💫 Fake News!
I’m all for a header or an attention grabbing title but I hate a bait and switch. Like a title that says I almost died and then the story is about an influencer package mix-up. I think you’ll get the clicks but I also think you’ll piss people off.
😵💫 Purposely being annoying.
My way of being annoying is totally organic (thank you). But there are ways to create conversation and debate which will then get more views and engagement and it’s just not my thing. I’m talking about purposely making a mistake so people point it out in the comments, saying something shocking on purpose, or doing something like wasting a ton of food on TikTok just to hear people complain about it.
Listen to your own values and brand. Definitely know what’s trending and working so you can opt out of what just isn’t for you.
